Tomorrow, I will post a dual preview of Army and Navy. After that, we are officially done with college football's mid-majors (and Boise State).
It's going to be a really odd year in the Mountain West. Almost every team in the conference fits into one of two categories: a) teams who have struggled mightily in recent years and are breaking in new coaches, or b) teams who have done well for themselves but must replace serious talent, both in quality and quantity. Approximately speaking, Wyoming fits into neither category and Fresno State fits into both.
It is almost a shame, really. With a wonderfully experienced squad, teams like Air Force, Nevada, Hawaii, San Diego State or even Fresno State might be able to challenge for a conference title because of Boise State's losses. Instead, they all have their own holes to fill, and I have to figure that Boise State will (deservingly) be the runaway favorite. They're mine, anyway.
